The S1 Biotechnology Study Program, Department of Biology, Faculty of Science and Mathematics (FSM), Diponegoro University, held a general lecture entitled “Major Issues Associated with Agriculture and Food Production” on Wednesday, May 7, 2025. The event featured international guest speaker Prof. Brett Ferguson from the School of Agriculture and Food Sustainability, Faculty of Science, The University of Queensland, Australia.

The lecture, which took place at the 6th Floor Auditorium of the Acintya Prasada Building, FSM UNDIP, was part of the ongoing World Class University (WCU) program developed by FSM to expand the global perspective of its academic community. The program aims to foster international collaboration and introduce innovative developments in science and technology to students and faculty, thereby enhancing the quality of education and research on campus.

In his presentation, Prof. Ferguson highlighted major challenges currently faced by the agriculture and food sectors, such as climate change and global food security. He also emphasized the importance of biotechnology and precision agriculture innovations in building a more sustainable food system for the future.

The lecture was attended by enthusiastic faculty members and students of the S1 Biotechnology Study Program, who actively engaged in discussions on the global dynamics and challenges in modern agriculture. Participants gained valuable insights into how scientific approaches—particularly through biotechnology—can contribute significantly to addressing global food security issues.

By inviting internationally renowned speakers, FSM UNDIP remains committed to fostering a progressive academic environment that is open to relevant global issues.
