Mr. Dwi Susilo, a 2022 graduate of the Master’s Program in Chemistry at the Faculty of Science and Mathematics (FSM), Diponegoro University, has proven his dedication and expertise in the field of environmental health through his work at the National Environmental Health Laboratory Center, Ministry of Health. Since graduating in 2024, Mr. Dwi has contributed as a public health laboratory technician, conducting chemical analysis on water, air, and soil samples from across Indonesia. The chemistry knowledge he gained at FSM UNDIP laid a strong foundation for understanding environmental pollution and its impact on public health, including his role in investigating environmental poisoning cases and analysing COVID-19 samples during the Pandemic.
The knowledge and experience he acquired during his studies at FSM UNDIP have played a crucial role in his career. His mastery of analytical chemistry, toxicology, biochemistry, and laboratory instrumentation techniques such as AAS, spectrophotometry, and chromatography equipped him with essential technical skills for daily lab work. Moreover, intensive laboratory practice and hands-on experiments helped shape a systematic and meticulous scientific mindset. Support from lecturers and the culture of hard work on campus have continued to motivate his strong work ethic to this day.
One of his significant achievements is obtaining a simple patent for an aspirator device used to capture insects for testing the efficacy of insecticides, particularly against mosquitoes and flies. This innovation represents a tangible contribution by Mr. Dwi to the field of environmental health research.
Mr. Dwi emphasises that the culture of hard work and the support of his lecturers during his university years remain a powerful motivation throughout his career. He encourages FSM UNDIP students to enjoy every learning process, be active in student organisations, and build meaningful relationships, as soft skills are just as essential as academic knowledge. According to him, openness to new knowledge and the courage to step outside of one’s comfort zone will open many doors to future success.
