FSM UNDIP Laboratories and Human Resources Strengthen Quality Standards through International Certification by TÜV Rheinland Germany

The Faculty of Science and Mathematics (FSM), Diponegoro University, continues to strengthen its commitment to improving the quality of laboratory management and human resource competencies through the adoption of international standards. This commitment is demonstrated through the implementation of laboratory certification and laboratory personnel certification recognized internationally by independent certification bodies.

In 2022, several laboratories within FSM UNDIP, particularly in the Department of Physics, participated in an international laboratory certification process facilitated by Diponegoro University’s Quality Assurance Agency (BPSM). The Electronics Laboratory and the Radiation Physics Laboratory were among the units involved in this program. The certification process was conducted in stages, beginning with training sessions held on 18–19 August 2022, followed by improvements to facilities, infrastructure, and laboratory management systems, and concluding with an assessment conducted by a team of assessors from TÜV Rheinland Germany.

The certification activities covered the strengthening of laboratory management systems, archive and inventory management, the implementation of occupational health and safety (OHS), and the organization of work areas in accordance with international standards. Through this process, laboratories within FSM UNDIP are guided to adopt well-documented, safe, and user-oriented governance practices.

In addition to laboratory certification, quality enhancement efforts were also carried out through the certification of laboratory personnel competencies. Several laboratory staff members from FSM UNDIP participated in and successfully passed the “Laboratory Technician (TÜV)” certification examination organized by TÜV Rheinland Indonesia on 7 September 2022. This certification assessed various competency aspects, including portfolio evaluation, performance appraisal, knowledge insight, as well as presentation skills and the implementation of the PDCA (Plan–Do–Check–Act) continuous improvement cycle.

From the Department of Physics, two laboratory staff members, Adam Sumboko and Faisal Rahman, were declared to have successfully passed the certification with scores meeting international passing standards. Meanwhile, from the Department of Chemistry, Juju Juwita also achieved a pass status with excellent evaluation results. From the Department of Biology, Andriana Hesti Kusuma and Eko Purnomo likewise successfully passed the certification, further strengthening the readiness of laboratory human resources across departments. These results reflect the preparedness and professionalism of FSM UNDIP laboratory personnel in supporting education, research, and community service activities.

The successful certification of laboratories and human resources forms part of FSM UNDIP’s continuous efforts to ensure high-quality, safe, and internationally standardized laboratory services. Supported by certified laboratories and competent personnel, FSM UNDIP remains committed to fostering an excellent academic ecosystem and advancing sustainable scientific and technological development.
