Semarang, March 19, 2025 – PT Sigma Utama, a domestic paint company established in 1932 and an affiliate of PT Pupuk Indonesia Holding Company (Persero), has officially signed a cooperation agreement with Diponegoro University (UNDIP). This collaboration aims to strengthen synergy between academia and industry in education, research, and community engagement.
The signing ceremony took place at the Diponegoro University Rectorate Building and was attended by the President Director of PT Sigma Utama, Benny Frengki Simanjuntak, as well as the Rector of Diponegoro University, Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si. Also present at the event were UNDIP’s leadership, including the Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, Cooperation, and Public Communication, the Dean of the Faculty of Science and Mathematics (FSM), and the Director of Innovation and Cooperation.
This partnership includes various programs, such as internship opportunities for students through the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program and the development of an industry-based curriculum. In the research sector, the primary focus of this collaboration is the development of copper oxide (CuO) material for anti-fouling paint, which benefits the maritime industry. Additionally, research will also cover nano silver for antibacterial coatings, phosphorescent materials for glow-in-the-dark paint, geothermal silica materials for coating applications, and anti-radar materials for coatings.
The President Director of PT Sigma Utama, Benny Frengki Simanjuntak, emphasized that this partnership is a crucial step in bridging academic innovation with industrial needs while providing students with opportunities for internships and research contributions. Meanwhile, the Rector of UNDIP, Prof. Dr. Suharnomo, S.E., M.Si., highlighted the importance of synergy between academia and industry in facing modern challenges and fostering beneficial innovations.
