The Department of Physics, Faculty of Science and Mathematics (FSM) at Diponegoro University has once again demonstrated its commitment to delivering technological innovations that benefit society. On Thursday, July 24, 2025, a team led by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Nur, DEA delivered a plasma technology package called D’Ozone to Batur Village, Getasan District, Semarang Regency.

During the event held on the slopes of Mount Merbabu—one of Central Java’s main horticultural centers—Prof. Nur was accompanied by his two colleagues, Zaenul Muhlisin, S.Si., M.Si., F.Med. and Oki Ade Putra, M.Si. This plasma ozone technology is designed to address various post-harvest challenges faced by horticulture farmers.

“With plasma ozone treatment, the freshness of horticultural commodities is expected to last longer, pesticide residues can be reduced, and pests and microorganisms on the products can also be eliminated,” explained Prof. Nur. This technology is expected to improve the quality of harvests so that they can penetrate larger markets such as supermarkets and restaurants. Consequently, farmers’ bargaining positions will become stronger, profits will increase, and welfare will improve.

Zaenul Muhlisin and Oki Ade Putra added that in the near future, FSM UNDIP will also deploy Community Service Program (KKN) students to Batur Village. “The students will assist in the development of packaging technology and online marketing as a sustainable effort to support farmers,” they said.

Through this concrete action, FSM UNDIP underscores the important role of science and technology in empowering communities. This program is expected to support the welfare of horticulture farmers on the slopes of Merbabu while strengthening the vision of “Undip for Benefit, Undip for Dignity.”
