Semarang, October 1, 2025 — The Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science and Mathematics (FSM), Diponegoro University held a workshop titled “Converting Scientific Publication into Thesis and Vice Versa” as part of the International Postdoctoral Program series. The event took place on the 4th floor of the Acintya Prasada Building, FSM Undip, and was attended by Master’s (S2) students preparing their theses. The speaker, Dr. Enis Nadia binti Md Yusof, Ph.D. (Chemical Science Program, School of Distance Education, Universiti Sains Malaysia), presented a structured approach to ensure that journal manuscripts and theses strengthen each other in both substance and writing.

In her session, she emphasized the importance of understanding the scientific structure of publications (title–abstract–introduction–methods–results–discussion–conclusion) and how to map these components onto more comprehensive thesis chapters. She also shared practical tips: articulating a clear scientific contribution, sharpening the research gap through a focused literature review, ensuring alignment among research questions, methodology, and data analysis, maintaining consistent citation style, and observing publication ethics.

Following the presentation, an interactive Q&A session addressed common challenges such as selecting target journals, handling scopes that are too broad or too narrow, strategies for responding to reviewers, and how to extract a standalone article from a set of thesis findings without sacrificing academic coherence. As the Person in Charge (PIC), Prof. Yayuk Astuti, S.Si., Ph.D., noted that this workshop represents concrete support for enhancing postgraduate publication capacity. “This activity is expected to broaden perspectives that scientific publication and thesis writing are interconnected and can reinforce each other to produce quality research,” she said.

One participant, Chillyatul Millati (a Master’s student in Chemistry at Undip), also shared a positive impression: “This workshop is very beneficial because it provides a clear picture of how to write a thesis well and develop it into a quality scientific article,” she said.

Through this workshop, the Department of Chemistry, FSM Undip reaffirms its commitment to providing relevant and applicable academic support for postgraduate students, so that thesis outcomes not only meet academic standards but are also ready to compete in reputable publications.
