FSM UNDIP Holds WCU – PostDoc International Program with Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohd Hanafi Ahmad Hijazi from Universiti Malaysia Sabah

The Faculty of Science and Mathematics (FSM) at Diponegoro University organized a series of World Class University (WCU) – PostDoc International activities featuring Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohd Hanafi Ahmad Hijazi from Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) on 9–15 November 2025. This program is part of FSM UNDIP’s efforts to strengthen global networks, enhance research capacity, and expand sustainable international academic collaboration. Throughout the program, not only were scientific discussions and networking activities carried out, but the collaboration also produced three joint international publications along with several supporting activities that further reinforced FSM UNDIP’s commitment to internationalization and global academic reputation.

On the first day, Monday, 10 November 2025, the agenda began with a UNDIP Campus Tour, introducing Prof. Hanafi to various leading facilities across the campus. During the tour, he visited FSM laboratories, academic spaces, and student service centers that showcased UNDIP’s readiness to support the Tri Dharma of Higher Education and collaborative research development. This campus tour provided a direct overview of UNDIP’s dynamic academic ecosystem, ranging from learning activities and research to integrated student services. Through this visit, Prof. Hanafi gained a comprehensive understanding of how FSM and UNDIP have built an environment conducive to the advancement of science, technology, and innovation.

Following the campus tour, the program continued with a welcoming session led by the Dean of FSM UNDIP, Prof. Dr. Kusworo Adi, S.Si., M.T., held at Koenang-koenang Resto. After the welcome event, Prof. Hanafi met with 21 UMS students participating in a one-semester student mobility program at FSM UNDIP. This meeting served as an important moment to strengthen academic relations between UNDIP and UMS while supporting the implementation of International Mobility within the WCU framework.

On the second day, Tuesday, 11 November 2025, the focus shifted to academic enrichment through a Studium Generale themed “Introduction to Artificial Intelligence.” In this public lecture, Prof. Hanafi served as the keynote speaker, moderated by Satriawan Rasyid Purnama, S.Kom., M.Cs. The event was attended by more than 170 enthusiastic students who followed the presentation on basic concepts of artificial intelligence, the development of AI technology across various sectors, and the promising research opportunities that lie ahead. Through systematic and communicative delivery, Prof. Hanafi connected AI advancements to industry needs, educational challenges, and the ethical considerations that accompany rapid technological growth.

The program continued on the third day, Wednesday, 12 November 2025, with a Workshop and Manuscript Clinic designed for Informatics lecturers at UNDIP, particularly those pursuing doctoral studies or planning to continue to the Ph.D. level. In this session, Prof. Hanafi provided intensive guidance on effective scientific writing techniques, including article structuring, sharpening research novelty and problem formulation, and strategies for selecting reputable international journals. This workshop became an important milestone in encouraging improvements in the quality and quantity of international publications while simultaneously strengthening lecturers’ capacity to compete at a global level.

On the fourth day, Thursday, 13 November 2025, the program proceeded with a Research Visit involving Informatics lecturers, UNDIP students, and UMS students. This activity was designed to strengthen academic networks through direct discussions, exposure to research environments, and exploration of future collaborative opportunities. Beyond academic aspects, the Research Visit also served as a space to introduce Indonesia’s cultural richness to international guests, both through informal interactions and firsthand experiences in the local environment.

The WCU – PostDoc International series with Prof. Hanafi concluded on Friday, 14 November 2025, with a Sharing Session on Student Mobility held together with the Faculty of Computing and Informatics, UMS. The session discussed various aspects of strengthening student exchange schemes, including administrative mechanisms, quality assurance of learning activities, and expanded opportunities for joint research for students from both institutions.

Through the implementation of the WCU – PostDoc International Program, FSM UNDIP reaffirms its commitment to promoting internationalization, enhancing research quality, and solidifying its position as an active faculty within the global academic network. The collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sabah—resulting in joint publications, strengthened lecturer capacity, and the expansion of student mobility programs—stands as concrete evidence of FSM UNDIP’s dedication to advancing science and higher education through sustainable international collaboration.
