Visit of SMK Telkom Malang to FSM UNDIP Inspires Students to Pursue Higher Education

The Faculty of Science and Mathematics (FSM) of Diponegoro University (UNDIP) receives the study excursion from SMK Telkom Malang on Wednesday, 10 December 2025. The event took place on the 6th floor of the Acintya Prasada Building at FSM UNDIP. This visit was part of the “Continuing to Higher Education” program, aimed at providing insights into academic life, career prospects in information technology and data science, as well as a real picture of the campus environment at UNDIP in Semarang.

The event began with welcoming remarks from the Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs of FSM UNDIP, Dr. Ngadiwiyana, S.Si., M.Si. In his address, he warmly welcomed the delegation from SMK Telkom Malang and expressed his hope that the students would be increasingly interested in continuing their studies at FSM, which is known as a powerhouse of achievements at Diponegoro University. He emphasized that the learning process at FSM does not only focus on fulfilling the curriculum, but also on strengthening student achievements in various fields. Dr. Ngadiwiyana also hoped that the students would be able to absorb the information delivered by the speakers throughout the event, especially from the presentations of Dr. Pandji Triadyaksa, Dr. Aris Sugiharto, S.Si., M.Kom., and Mr. Adhe Setya Pramayoga.

Representing the school, the Head of Guidance Counseling and Character Division of SMK Telkom Malang, Ahmad Nasikhin, M.Pd., conveyed his appreciation for the warm welcome from FSM UNDIP. He hoped that this visit would bring great benefits to the students, broaden their perspectives on university life, and motivate them to grow into individuals who are useful to society and the world of work.

In the next session, the Coordinator for Promotion and Communication of FSM UNDIP, Dr. Pandji Triadyaksa, S.Si., M.Sc., F.Med., delivered a presentation on the profile of Diponegoro University and FSM. He explained UNDIP’s position as a state university with legal entity status and excellent accreditation, its network of 11 faculties and 2 schools, a wide range of study programs from undergraduate to doctoral levels, as well as various supporting facilities such as integrated laboratories, a teaching hospital, stadium, student dormitories, and high-achieving student activity units. In particular, he highlighted FSM as one of the leading faculties that significantly contributes to UNDIP’s achievements and reputation, with a strong academic environment, active research culture, and outstanding student achievements at national and international levels. Dr. Pandji also introduced the university admission schemes, scholarship opportunities, and career development services designed to help graduates enter the professional world with strong competitiveness.

The session was then followed by a presentation from the Head of the Informatics Department of FSM UNDIP, Dr. Aris Sugiharto, S.Si., M.Kom., who provided a more detailed overview of the Informatics Department. He explained the history of the development of the Informatics Study Program, which has achieved “Excellent” accreditation from LAM INFOKOM, its scientific focus on algorithms, intelligent computing, and data analytics, as well as graduate learning outcomes that emphasize computational thinking, problem-solving abilities, mastery of up-to-date technologies, and soft skills such as collaboration and professional responsibility. Dr. Aris also presented the curriculum, modern computing laboratories, national and international collaboration networks, and various student achievements in application development, game development, data competitions, and scientific publications at the global level. Through this presentation, students of SMK Telkom Malang were invited to imagine various career opportunities as software engineers, data analysts, AI engineers, and other professions in the information technology industry after continuing their studies in the Informatics Department of FSM UNDIP.

Adding a strong inspirational dimension to the event, there was also a sharing session by a lecturer of the Informatics Department of FSM UNDIP who is also an alumnus of SMK Telkom Malang, Mr. Adhe Setya Pramayoga, M.T. In this session, he shared his journey from being a vocational high school student to pursuing higher education and eventually building a career as a lecturer. Mr. Adhe emphasized that having an SMK background is not a barrier to achieving success in higher education or academia, as long as it is accompanied by commitment to learning, readiness to adapt to technological developments, and the courage to dream bigger. His story became tangible proof for the students that the opportunity to become part of the FSM UNDIP academic community is wide open for anyone willing to strive.

The question-and-answer session took place in a warm and interactive atmosphere; the students enthusiastically asked questions about admission pathways to FSM UNDIP, tips for preparing for the selection process, study experiences in the Informatics Department, as well as scholarship opportunities and student activities. Through this visit, it is hoped that more students from SMK Telkom Malang will be motivated to continue their studies to higher education, especially to the Faculty of Science and Mathematics of Diponegoro University, and contribute to the development of science, information technology, and data in the future.
