The Faculty of Science and Mathematics (FSM) of Universitas Diponegoro held a Workshop on the Formulation of Vision, Mission, and Strategic Plan (Renstra) for 2025–2029 on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. The event took place at Acintya Prasada Hall, 6th Floor of the FSM Dean Building, and was also accessible online via Zoom for participants unable to attend in person.

The workshop was attended by faculty leadership, lecturers, alumni, stakeholders, and student representatives. The objective was to outline FSM UNDIP’s development direction for the next five years, including the collective, adaptive, and globally oriented strengthening of study program visions and missions.

The event began with a welcoming speech by the Dean of FSM, Prof. Dr. Kusworo Adi, S.Si., M.T., who emphasized the importance of input from various parties, including stakeholders and alumni. This input, he noted, is crucial to addressing accreditation challenges and aligning the formulation of the faculty’s and study programs’ vision, mission, and strategic plan. “We are gathering feedback from stakeholders, alumni, and Prof. Kuwat, who deeply understands the dynamics of FMIPA. While our Renstra may not be perfect, it is a necessary step toward continuous improvement,” he explained.

Prof. Dr. Ir. Purwanto, DEA, Head of the Planning and Development Board (BPP) of UNDIP, was also present to deliver a keynote address. In his remarks, he highlighted the importance of international rankings in supporting institutional reputation. Currently, UNDIP ranks 700–725 globally according to QS and is within the national top 10. The short-term goal is to enter the top 500 globally, with an ambitious target of reaching the top 200 by the end of 2025. Faculties are expected to actively support this mission.

Prof. Purwanto also stressed the need for accurate data recording, efficient cross-department laboratory management, strategic planning for faculty recruitment over the next five years, and the opportunity to involve alumni as practitioner lecturers.

The core session of the workshop featured Prof. Dr. Eng. Kuwat Tryana, M.Si., Dean of FMIPA UGM and Secretary General of MIPANET, as the keynote speaker, moderated by Prof. Dr. Dra. Dwi Hudiyanti, M.Si. Prof. Kuwat underscored that the formulation of a faculty’s vision and mission must answer fundamental questions about its desired future and core values. He also emphasized the essential link between vision-mission and key institutional dimensions such as employability, academic reputation, social contribution, and the well-being of the academic community.

According to Prof. Kuwat, a strategic plan must not solely focus on Key Performance Indicators (IKU), but should go beyond and aim for the comprehensive integration and institutional strengthening of the faculty. He also highlighted the importance of regular data collection, alumni involvement in graduate evaluation, and the need to establish business units or models that support the faculty’s sustainable independence.

Following the main session, participants continued with focused group discussions within each study program. These discussions addressed the formulation of vision and mission statements, strategies for academic development, research, and community engagement based on sustainable development principles. Industry stakeholders also provided input on strengthening graduate competencies. The results of each group discussion were then presented in a plenary session by the respective heads of the study programs.

The workshop concluded with final remarks and recommendations from the Dean of FSM. Through this initiative, FSM UNDIP reaffirmed its commitment to building a strategic direction that is adaptive, collaborative, and visionary—paving the way toward becoming a world-class faculty.
