Semarang, October 2, 2025 — The Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science and Mathematics (FSM), Diponegoro University held a workshop titled “How to Write a Good Research Proposal for Undergraduate Student” on the 4th floor of the Acintya Prasada Building, FSM. The session featured a keynote speaker from Chemical Science Program, School of Distance Education, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Dr. Enis Nadia binti Md Yusof, Ph.D. The workshop aimed to equip undergraduate students preparing for their final projects with a structured understanding of how to craft research proposals that are sound, systematic, and competitive.
In her presentation, Dr. Enis emphasized essential steps—from formulating clear problems and objectives, compiling a relevant literature review and identifying the research gap, designing a methodology aligned with the research questions, to preparing a work plan, timeline, and expected outputs. She also shared practical strategies to make proposals more persuasive, including maintaining a precise scope, consistent terminology, appropriate method–data alignment, and adherence to research ethics.
Following the main session, an interactive Q&A took place. Participants enthusiastically explored common challenges such as overly broad topics, insufficiently specified method selection, as well as citation practices and reference management. Concluding the discussion, Dr. Enis encouraged participants to draft a concise yet sharp proposal framework and to open space for early feedback with academic supervisors. Dewi Aisyah, an undergraduate Chemistry student at Undip, shared her impression: “The event was very enjoyable and broadened my understanding of writing a research outline, especially for those of us who are just about to begin our projects,” she said.
This workshop also marked the conclusion of the Department of Chemistry’s “International Postdoctoral Activities” series. During the ceremonial moment, a token of appreciation was presented by Prof. Adi Darmawan to Dr. Enis Nadia binti Md Yusof, Ph.D., symbolizing the close academic collaboration between Diponegoro University and Universiti Sains Malaysia. Through this activity, it is hoped that students will be increasingly motivated to produce high-quality proposals and contribute meaningfully to the advancement of scientific knowledge.
FSM Undip continues to strengthen a student-centered ecosystem of research and learning, from classrooms to laboratories. Through international collaboration and a culture of academic integrity, we encourage the emergence of proposals, publications, and innovations that are relevant to society.
