On Monday (29/07), the Faculty of Science and Mathematics (FSM), Diponegoro University (Undip), held a training event titled “Teaching–Learning Training on the 2024 Outcome-Based Education (OBE) Curriculum” at the Kapuas Ballroom, Arrus Hotel Semarang. The event was attended by the Faculty Quality Assurance Team and lecturer representatives from each department.

The training aimed to enhance lecturers’ understanding and skills in implementing the OBE curriculum, which focuses on student learning outcomes. Outcome-Based Education (OBE) is an educational approach that emphasizes clear and measurable learning outcomes. Through OBE, graduates are expected to develop competencies aligned with the needs of industry and society.

For this session, FSM Undip invited Dr. Nurzal Effiyana Binti Ghazali from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) as the speaker. She is an expert in education and curriculum development with extensive experience implementing innovative teaching methods such as Student-Centered Learning (SCL) and Project-Based Learning (PjBL). Dr. Nurzal has contributed to various research projects and trainings aimed at improving the quality of higher education and is frequently invited to speak at international seminars and workshops. Her materials covered both the theory and practice of SCL and PjBL, as well as how these methods can be applied within an OBE curriculum.

Participants were highly enthusiastic during the discussion and practical sessions led by Dr. Nurzal. The training also provided opportunities for lecturers to share experiences and strategies for implementing SCL and PjBL. These discussions are expected to broaden lecturers’ perspectives and skills in developing better curricula.

It is hoped that, through this training, FSM Undip lecturers will implement the OBE curriculum more effectively, thereby producing graduates who are competent and ready to face challenges in the workplace.

Through these ongoing efforts, FSM Undip reaffirms its commitment to continually improving educational quality and producing outstanding graduates in science and mathematics.
